Position Summary Information

Objective:

Provide assistance to faculty in the design and development of effective web0enhanced, blended, and online courses utilizing evidence-based instructional methods, support institutions’ efforts for increasing quality in course design. Design and coordinates training opportunities.

Required Quals Summary: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with 18 credit hours in (either undergraduate or graduate level) education or related field.
  • Experience with online course development applying nationally recognized design standards and pedagogical and adult learning theories.
  • Expert in Windows and Office software.
  • Expert knowledge of learning management systems.
  • Experience with recording, converting, and editing digital video and audio.
  • Experience in designing and delivering both online and face-to-face trainings.
  • Experience designing accessible materials.

Leave time includes 96 hours vacation, 40 hours discretionary and 16 hours personal each year and 8 hours sick each month. Paid leave for college designated holiday’s, spring break, Thanksgiving and Christmas break (approx. 25 days per year)

Principal Accountabilities

Principal Accountabilities

  • Apply relevant instructional design models to the design and development of online, blended, and web-enhanced learning environments.
  • Assist faculty in developing instructional strategies and quality course materials.
  • Provide technical, pedagogical, and adult learning theory assistance to faculty and staff.
  • Maintain awareness of current and emerging technologies and pedagogical research.
  • Develop and provide technical training materials and seminars including using the learning management system and other related software programs to support and promote quality course design.
  • Assess and provide feedback on faculty-developed course materials for compliance with Blinn Distance Learning Guidelines and Standards and ADA standards.
  • Participate in collaborative effort to streamline the design and delivery of online courses.
  • Oversee and manage the Instructional Design Lab.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned

  • Ability to analyze instructional-related tasks/projects.
  • Ability to analyze curriculum and select technology solutions and enhancements as necessary.
  • Strong oral and written skills.
  • Ability to conduct effective group training sessions.
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
  • Knowledge and awareness of ADA compliance standards for online learning.
  • Ability to work both independently and on a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years’ experience assisting technology utilization in a higher education environment (e.g. lecture capture systems, publisher course materials, student response systems).
  • Experience in designing and implementing assessment strategies through the use of educational technology.
  • Certification as a QM peer reviewer.
  • Certification to teach face-to-face sessions of Applying the QM Rubric, Designing Your Online Course, and Improving Your Online Course.
  • Accessibility certification.
  • Experience in webpage and site development.
  • Experience utilizing Quality Matters standards.
  • Experience designing online courses for higher education classes.

  • Ability to work in a virtual environment and a multi-campus environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Desire2Learn learning management system.
