Job Description:
The Instructional Design (ID) intern will work closely with the Instructional Design team to support the creation of engaging learning experiences for students across all universities within The Community Solution Education System. The ID intern may be tasked with a specific project during their tenure, or work on multiple projects as assigned. This position reports to the Associate Director of Learning Experience Design, with additional task delegation and supervision from the Associate Director of Instructional Design.
The primary responsibility of the ID intern is to assist the Instructional Design and Learning Experience Design team in enhancing the student experience in online or hybrid/blended courses.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Reviewing and revising accessibility resources available to faculty and staff to align with the current WCAG standards.
- Working with the instructional design team and subject matter experts to design or update courses in the learning management system, Canvas, following QM (Quality Matters) Standards and Accessibility guidelines (e.g., revising existing content, uploading revised syllabus, revising dead hyperlinks)
- Researching emerging learning technology tools; identifying applications to higher education and practice in different fields; creating summaries to share with staff.
- Consulting with subject matter experts/faculty as needed during the course development process.
- Assisting in the development of micro-credentials or other special projects as needed.
- Meeting weekly with ID leadership and staff to discuss how Instructional Design in higher education is performed and managed.
Position Requirements:
- Familiarity with the learning management system, Canvas.
- Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts.
- Ability to create or edit images for tutorials or for use in Canvas courses.
- Ability to demonstrate attention to detail in all deliverables and communications.
- Motivated to explore or learn about innovative technology for implementation in online courses.
- Research, analyze, and synthesize information/data and provide recommendations for designing learning solutions.
- Must possess strong analytical and organizational skills and the flexibility to handle multiple tasks and deadline pressures.
- Strong comprehension and creative visualization skills.
- Strong self-motivation and self-management.
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to constructively identify and discuss potential project challenges (e.g., scope change, and deadlines).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Position Qualifications:
- Effective and appropriate written and verbal communication skills in a business environment.
- Working knowledge of Office365 apps.
- A background in educational psychology and technology, or industrial-organizational psychology might be helpful.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Instructional design, learning management systems, user experience design, visual design, storyboarding, HTML, CSS.
Education:
- Currently enrolled in a master’s or doctoral degree program and in good academic standing.
Experience:
- One to two years’ experience using e-learning/course development software delivered via a learning management system.
Certifications or Licensure:
Preferred Qualifications:
- One to two years’ experience using the Canvas learning management system.
- Familiarity with the Canvas Studio video platform, including recording, editing, and captioning media.
- Familiarity with Articulate 360 e-learning content creation tools.
Working Conditions:
This position is 100% remote, supplemented by regular synchronous virtual meetings with Instructional Design team leadership and staff.
