We are seeking an Instructional Design intern who can help us empower new users to jump into our tools and help existing users to improve their application of our tools. All in the name of good science!

As an intern, you will work with customer-facing groups and internal Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to identify the prior knowledge, preferences, processes, goals, and daily hurdles of your learner audience. This context will drive the framework for the learning content you will develop and deliver. The scope and progress of your internship will be guided by your supervisor, a fellow instructional designer.

You will:

  • Collaborate with internal SMEs to develop learner profiles and analyze learner tasks and needs.
  • Design a plan to address the gaps and pitfalls in our documentation/training (as it stands now) – including content creation.
  • Triage your list of content needs for the highest impact possible within your internship.
  • Create/Develop instructional content – with guidance, support, and feedback in agile, routine meetings with SMEs.
  • Collaborate with other parties within the Commercial group to ensure the delivery and impact of your efforts are recorded for analysis later.

Key Learnings: 

  • You will learn about and gain experience working in the world of small molecule drug discovery, working with an interdisciplinary team create and deliver instructional content for a subset of new users.
  • You will learn how to assess for needs, establish learner profiles, write, produce, and elicit feedback from our stakeholders on learning content.
  • You will learn how to implement/practice an AGILE method of strategy and creation.
  • You will learn how to design and deliver content for your learners – getting familiar with graphic and video software.
  • You will learn how to present your process and work in an and-of-internship presentation to the company – offering you a polished portfolio piece.

Education–What you should have (formally Must Haves/Requirements):

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 4 years of experience in a related field
  • Minimum of a year teaching, training, or developing content or curriculum for adult learners

The following are a PLUS, but not required (preferred skills/experience):

  • Master’s degree or certificate in instructional design, curriculum and instruction, education, adult learning, graphic design, or videography
  • Experience with Camtasia and/or Adobe CC
  • Portfolio of content or curriculum to talk through in your interview
