Job Summary

The Instructional Designer position is responsible for the development, editing and implementation of a training curriculum for the IMO and FI annuity channels.  The designer will develop courses using the best delivery system such as videos, e-learning, or micro-learning based on the material and the audience.  In partnership with the Director of Retail Product & Sales Training and the Sales Trainer, this position will assess learning needs and prioritize training needs for optimal results with the goal being to facilitate our wholesaler-learner in acquiring sales skills. 

This position reports to the Director, Retail Product & Sales Training. This position will interact with all levels of employees.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Consult with Sales Trainer to align with sales training needs.
  • Consult with SMEs in actuary, product design, etc. to get content for training modules.
  • Utilize instructional design theories create engaging elearning activities with a focus on independent learning.
  • Conduct pre and post instructional research and analysis on learners. Develop metrics to determine the effectiveness of the training with a goal to improve productivity and quality.
  • Create unique exercises and activities to enhance the learning process, such as role assimilation, and gamification.
  • Work with the Sales Trainer to design and deliver a new wholesaler onboarding program.
  • Partner with Sales Trainer to create PPT decks for live facilitation sessions.
  • Foster relationships with Compliance and own the Ad Review process for all sales training content.
  • Partner with the Technical Writer, as needed, and Compliance to ensure training documentation meets compliance standards.
  • Act as an additional facilitator, as needed.

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years of instructional design experience
  • Prior successful experience as an instructional designer, with a concentration in eLearning
  • Experience working in instructional design platforms (ie Articulate, Captiva, iSpring, etc…)
  • Prior experience in financial services industry and annuities is a plus
  • State insurance license, or ability to acquire within 6 months of hire
  • Series 6 and 63, or ability to acquire within 12 months of hire

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
  • Prior lesson and curriculum planning knowledge
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Highly-developed communications skills (written/verbal), ability to deliver clear and convincing presentations on training curriculum
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships and the ability to model our core values: Collaborative, Authentic, Dynamic, Empowered and Inclusive
  • A strong collaborator with a demonstrated ability/credibility to influence broadly and challenge conventional thinking
  • A strong knowledge of course development software
  • Must have the ability to understand and write effective text for a complex products
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Proficient plus with Microsoft Office Suite

Other Requirements

  • Perform other functions, duties and projects as assigned
  • Regular and punctual attendance
  • Some travel may be required (less than 10%)
