As the Director of Learning Design & Technology at Bezos Academy, you will own the mechanisms, services, and tools that facilitate the learning and development needs of our staff across our growing national network of tuition-free, Montessori-inspired preschools. With your knowledge of learning technology, adult learning theory, media management practices, and instructional design, you and your team will support leaders across the organization in creating professional learning that scales with our growing workforce.

In this role, you will lead a team of learning experience designers, media, and technology professionals focused on supporting subject matter experts across our organization to develop professional learning. You will set the strategy for this function, building the organization’s learning and development infrastructure and delivery technology.

You will join a fast-growing team that operates at all levels, from strategic design to tactical implementation. You will lay the groundwork for your services, not only in the technology you utilize but also in strategy and team culture. Your broad experience across learning modalities, your proven leadership skillset, and your tenacious appetite for learning and discovery will be foundational to your success. Above all, you are motivated by our mission to expand access to high-quality preschool in under-resourced areas and eager to support us as we scale.

 Locations

  • Washington, Texas, or Florida within drivable distance of a Bezos Academy preschool (please see our website for school locations)
  • Relocation support is available for those willing to relocate to Seattle, WA

Compensation & Benefits

  • This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt (salaried) position.
  • The full salary range for this position in Florida, Texas, and Washington, is $147,00 – $288,000 per year. The upper portion of the salary range is typically reserved for existing employees who demonstrate strong performance over time. Starting salary will vary by location, qualifications, and prior experience; during the interview process, candidates will learn the starting salary range applicable for their location.
  • This role includes 15 paid days of vacation, 4 days of paid personal time off, 7 paid days of sick (care) time, 9 paid holidays, 5 paid days off for an organization-wide winter break, and additional time off if required by applicable law. Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Ten or more years of experience in learning and development, instructional design, or a related field, with at least five years of experience managing and leading teams
  • Proven knowledge of adult learning theory, methodologies, technology, and impact assessment
  • Experience owning and operating an organizational learning platform with multiple technology systems
  • Proven ability to lead a cross-functional team responsible for a dynamic project portfolio
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Travel up to 15% of the time with potentially more travel if not located in Seattle, WA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with professional adult learning in the education or non-profit sectors
  • History of building strong working relationships and influence with senior leaders
  • Experience successfully implementing learning management systems (LMS)
  • Experience developing content-centered learning tools such as video, audio, and animation
  • History of using data to identify trends, provide insights, inform programmatic recommendations, and solve tough cross-organizational challenges
  • Comfort working in a dynamic, high-growth, or startup environment with fluid and evolving functional boundaries and priorities
  • Track record of using an equity lens when designing and facilitating adult learning
