The Director, Instructional Design directs, leads, and manages instructional design/media resources and personnel to provide the most advanced services to the faculty and associate deans. The incumbent remains current on best practices, trends, emerging technologies, and new potentials in instructional technology to ensure the highest quality design and development of instructional technologies in various courses, including both traditional and online educational setting. Moreover, the incumbent provides expertise to recommend and support academic technologies, to integrate learning technologies into curricula, to facilitate the redesign of courses for improved student engagement and success, to ensure quality standards, and to encourage research-based teaching strategies in a variety of learning environments.

Core Job Functions

  • Serves as the senior leader on large-scale instructional design and digital media initiatives.
  • Manages technology integration in collaboration with the Learning Platforms team, program Program Chairs, Faculty, and Deans to ensure it meets the needs of the program.
  • Consults with the curriculum committee chair and associate deans to design course templates.
  • Consults and collaborates with executive leaders by acquiring, maintaining, and sharing expertise in designing courses and evolving online technical and educational best practices.
  • Initiates, implements, and manages the applicable systems and procedures.
  • Collaborates with the Deans and Associate Deans on various strategic initiatives and issues related to planning, development, and implementation of best practices instructional technology.
  • Develops and managesCollaborates with other members of UOnline and the Learning Platforms team to review and create the annual educational technology budget to ensure efficient and effective use of resources.
  • Leads personnel responsible for designing, developing, and producing cutting edge media and instructional technology as needed for traditional classrooms and distance education.
  • Serves as the educational technology liaison to assigned campus and external committees and task forces.
  • Oversees and manages courses including tutorials, alternative assignments, and guidelines for students to use in the event of a major campus emergency such as the Pandemic.
  • Directs the design and development of the digital library including tip sheets, video tutorials, educational media, and interactive learning resources.
  • Hires personnel needed to ensure that all assigned projects are delivered effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
