Core Job Summary                                                                                      

The Miami Herbert Business School is seeking a dynamic and innovative Director of Instructional Design to spearhead the development of both asynchronous and synchronous educational content. This role will be pivotal in enhancing our online and hybrid learning experiences, ensuring that our programs are cutting-edge, engaging, and effective. The Director will lead a dedicated team consisting of one graphic designer and one programmer, collaborating with faculty and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality instructional materials.

Core Job Functions                                                

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Leads, mentors, and manages a team of instructional design professionals, including one graphic designer and one programmer.
  • Fosters a collaborative and creative work environment that encourages innovative thinking and continuous improvement.

Content Development:

  • Designs and develops asynchronous and synchronous learning materials that align with the Miami Herbert Business School’s educational goals and standards.
  • Utilizes best practices in instructional design, multimedia development, and adult learning theory to create engaging and effective content.

Project Management:

  • Oversees the entire content development lifecycle, from initial concept through to deployment and evaluation.
  • Ensures projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Works closely with faculty, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and feedback.
  • Ensures clear and consistent communication throughout the content development process.

Quality Assurance:

  • Implements a rigorous quality assurance process to ensure all instructional materials are accurate, effective, and accessible.
  • Continuously assesses and improves the quality and effectiveness of instructional content.

Technology Integration:

  • Stays current with emerging trends and technologies in instructional design and e-learning.
  • Integrates new technologies and innovative practices into the content development process.

Professional Development:

  • Provides ongoing professional development opportunities for the instructional design team.
  • Promotes a culture of continuous learning and development within the team.

Core Qualifications                                                                                

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 9 years of experience in instructional design, with a focus on higher education.
  • 10 plus years of experience in business education or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with accessibility standards and best practices in online learning.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education and/or experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and other educational technologies.
  • Proven experience in creating both asynchronous and synchronous content.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Expertise in instructional design software and e-learning platforms.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of multimedia design and development tools.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
