Who We Are

The Mill Institute is leading a movement of K-12 and post-secondary educators to change the way students engage with the most heated issues facing society. We work with instructors and administrators to bring viewpoint diversity and open inquiry into educational settings. We aim to create spaces where students can be curious about anything.

Job Description:

The Mill Institute at UATX is hiring a part-time curriculum writer (approx 15 hrs/week) to help us build an online resource hub for high school teachers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with Mill Institute Teacher Fellows to edit educational resources they have written and to prepare those resources for online publication
  • Researching and setting up an online system to house educational resources
  • Creating educational resources focused on helping high school students understand key issues driving the 2024 presidential election in the U.S.
  • General resource editing and writing, as needed
  • Supporting other program needs as they arise

This position will report to the Director of the Mill Institute.

Job requirements

  • Min 3 years of experience with curriculum development and writing
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Enough digital fluency to comfortably navigate and evaluate different online systems for housing and organizing resources
  • Ability to translate academic content into clear, easy-to-understand learning modules

The right person will be:

  • A strong, highly organized, multitasker who takes pleasure in turning messy details into well-defined systems
  • Able  to turn written content around quickly and adhere to short-term deadlines
  • Able to engage with, and hopefully enjoy, self-directed work.
  • Able to break down large projects into smaller pieces with minimal guidance.

Preference will be given to people who have held positions teaching high school students and/or have developed lesson plans for high school audiences.

How We Work:

We are a small start-up team that operates very quickly. These traits also make us flexible and open to new ideas. We are highly self-directed, as we all work remotely from different cities. We have a lot of fun together, but we also get down to business as needed. As a team, we value direct communication and challenge each other’s ideas frequently as a way to make them better. Because we are such a young organization, we are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit, who enjoys carving out poorly defined projects and turning them into clear plans of action.

$30 – $30 an hour

Compensation

Approximately 15 hrs per week. 4-6 months in total, depending on how quickly projects are completed.
