We’re looking for talented individuals interested in joining a growing global company. At Slang, you’ll be an early team member of a global, well-funded startup spun out from MIT. We’re building a world-class team to revolutionize language learning with cutting-edge technology and delightful design.

What we’re working on at Slang

Slang started at MIT as a research project on using AI and NLP to make learning a new language as efficient as possible. Our technology powers a highly adaptive e-learning platform that offers an unprecedented variety of specialized English courses and proficiency tests for career development in over one hundred fields like Sales, Finance, Logistics, Medicine, and Law. With just a small team, we’ve already created the largest professional English offering in the world. Now, we’re scaling up to release 1,000 more courses over the next three years.

What this role is about

We’re looking for a detail-oriented and analytically-minded Content Intern to support the development of educational content for our app. Tasks you’ll work on might include drafting learner-friendly definitions for technical vocabulary, researching and writing material for our courses, and proofreading copy for our website and marketing materials. Your success in this role will hinge upon your ability to think critically and deeply about words and their many meanings and uses.

Please note that eligibility for this internship is restricted to current students or recent graduates.

Desired skills and background

  • Pursuing a degree in linguistics, English, ESL teaching/TESOL, journalism, foreign language, international communication, or other fields related to editorial work, language, or teaching.
  • Native English speaker.
  • Extensive experience with learning a second language. Strong technical skills and experience with Google Workspace.
  • Strong research skills. You’ll be assisting in the development of study materials for the full range of our professional English courses, including topics outside your areas of expertise.
  • Strong understanding of English grammar.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to show initiative and work independently.
  • An exceptional eye for detail, especially in writing and proofreading — we’ll be depending on you to ensure that our English learners have high-quality, error-free study materials.
  • A plus: Experience working in a multicultural team or environment. The content department includes members in Ottawa, Boston, Bogotá, Mexico City, Lima, Buenos Aires, and São Paulo who collaborate closely together.
  • A plus: Proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
  • A plus: Experience with AI prompt engineering or content generation.
  • A plus: Experience studying or working remotely.
