UIC is seeking an Associate Instructional Designer to join our  Instructional Design and Academic Technology for Learning Technology Solutions team.  This role reports to the Assistant Director of Instructional Design and Academic Technology for Learning Technology Solutions, the Associate Instructional Designer will be responsible for educating and advising instructors through on-campus and online consultations on digital resources and applications that support, course design, development, and the delivery of instruction in various course modalities; organizing and delivering professional development programs such as on-campus workshops and online webinars; collecting data on surveys and pilots as they relate to educational technologies, and creating content for and deploying pedagogical and instructional resources such as teaching guides, newsletter/website content, and on-demand videos.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Educational Application Support:

  • Support testing, piloting, and implementation of new releases and upgrades for educational technology applications.
  • Create and edit comprehensive documentation/resources for all educational technologies supported by TS and LTS.
  • Test new features and applications for functionality and accessibility, aligning with the latest version of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Title II.
  • Create, edit, and review content and deliverables in various formats to ensure the production of user-centric and accessible guides/assets/toolkits.
  • Support the analysis of confidential data on student engagement and application usage, usability, etc., summarizing findings to recommend changes and/or improvements.
  • Partner with the LTS Infrastructure Team to address accessibility concerns and assist with the rollout of new LTI/ applications.

Consultation and Training:

  • Develop, support, and facilitate training sessions and workshops focused on the technologies supported by LTS for teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with various units and departments to enhance content delivery during workshops and training sessions.
  • Collaborate one-on-one with instructors and other subject matter experts to support the use and integration of digital applications appropriate for on-campus, online, hybrid, and/or synchronous distributed instructional modalities.
  • Collaborate one-on-one with instructors and other subject matter experts to support quality course design and best practices as they relate to our digital applications and LMS.

Administration:

  • Serve as a liaison for LTS by participating in cross-campus meetings.
  • Keeps current with new instructional technologies available to students and faculty and relevant academic and social issues by participating in workshops and training provided by multiple sources.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • A. Master’s degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities such as history, political science, literature, journalism, communications, or philosophy
    AND
  • Six (6) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching
    OR
  • B. Baccalaureate degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities
    AND
  • Eighteen (18) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with learning management systems, preferably Blackboard and/or Canvas.
  • Experience in professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, and/or classroom teaching.
  • Knowledge of and experience in current and emerging instructional technologies, adult learning theories, accessibility, usability, and human-centered design, learning outcome assessment and the application of instructional design models.
  • Experience teaching and/or training in face-to-face, online and/or hybrid learning environments.
  • Experience working with subject matter experts in the development of courses materials.
  • Familiarity with accessible/ADA compliant graphic design elements appropriate for online instruction.
  • Skill in collaborating and communicating effectively with university instructors and other subject matter experts.
  • Commitment to service and team-oriented management.
  • Ability to manage and meet deadlines.
