Reporting to the Director of Digital Teaching and Learning, the Assistant Director of Digital Teaching and Learning leads the instructional design processes and administers the Online courses/programs of the university by facilitating technology-rich teaching and learning through collaborative curricular innovation, including new course development, course revision, online courses, faculty training/support, and service reliability and consistency.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist with LMS Management: Supports the Director in managing the university’s learning management system (LMS), ensuring effective functionality, maintenance, and alignment with university objectives.
  • Coordinate Technology Integration Initiatives: Works with the Director to implement strategic approaches for integrating technology into the university’s educational environments, supporting the Director’s leadership initiatives.
  • Support Curriculum Innovation Efforts: Assists in identifying, evaluating, and integrating educational technologies to enhance teaching and learning, providing operational support for new curriculum and technology initiatives.
  • Administer Online/Distance Learning Support: Provides operational and administrative support for online and distance learning classes and programs, assisting faculty in course delivery and coordinating ongoing program activities; serves as a point of contact for students and faculty regarding online programs.
  • Collaborate with Faculty on Instructional Design: Works with faculty across the university to offer pedagogical and technical consulting, helping to design, develop, and implement instructional content that enhances teaching and learning in online, hybrid, and traditional courses.
  • Collaborate Across University Divisions: Coordinates with division heads, Directors, and Information Technology to ensure the effective infusion of technology into educational areas, acting as a supportive collaborator to other departments.
  • Provide Technical Support for Instructional Technology: Assists in the maintenance and operational support of instructional technology tools that improve learning outcomes, enhance technology-rich teaching, and foster curricular innovation.
  • Assist with Faculty Professional Development Programs: Supports the Director in developing and delivering professional development workshops and resources for faculty, focusing on instructional design, online course development, and the use of interactive media tools.
  • Maintain Online Resource Repository: Assists with creating and maintaining an online repository of resources, including tutorials, interactive programs, and websites to support faculty and student access to best practices, innovations, and emerging trends.
  • Promote Engagement in Educational Technology Exploration: Engages with faculty and staff to explore, discuss, and assess educational technology; works with the Director to support and expand existing efforts to create a cohesive program of faculty support.
  • Stay Informed on Educational Technology Trends: Keeps current on emerging technologies, best practices, and instructional media to inform faculty and staff of relevant tools and resources that can enhance teaching and learning.
  • Support Data Collection and Reporting Efforts: Assists with establishing baseline data, tracking workshop attendance, and maintaining faculty course logs; helps monitor outcomes based on provided training, services, and support to achieve departmental goals.
  • Coordinate with IT for Infrastructure Needs: Works with the university’s Information Technology team to ensure adequate infrastructure to support the technology needs of the curricula.
  • Participate in Committees and University Planning Meetings: Supports the Director by attending relevant university policy and planning committees, providing insights and assisting with implementing committee recommendations.
  • Represent University in Regional Meetings: Assists the Director in representing the university’s distance learning interests at state and regional meetings; may collaborate with other institutions on grants and projects as directed.
  • Assist with Budget Management: Supports the Director in maintaining the budget for educational technology functions and ensures financial resources align with university priorities.
  • Aid in Policy Development and Evaluation: Assists with developing, implementing, and monitoring policies and procedures in collaboration with university leadership.
  • Contribute to Systematic Review Processes: Supports the Director in implementing the university’s model for systematic review and evaluation, assisting with tracking outcomes and developing plans of action based on assessments.
  • Regular Attendance and Professional Conduct: Consistently attends the workplace, reports punctually, and adheres to work schedules, completing all duties within university standards and guidelines.
  • Team Collaboration: Uses strong interpersonal skills and sound judgment to collaborate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, faculty, staff, and students, providing respectful and effective support.

  • Flexible Work Hours: Available to work evenings, holidays, or weekends as necessary to meet project deadlines or attend special events.
  • Additional Duties as Assigned: Completes other related duties as directed by the Director to support the goals and functions of the educational technology department.

Minimum Job Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Master’s (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in instructional system, instructional design, instructional technology, distance learning/education, multimedia development, or equivalent combination of education and closely relevant experience field and/or related field. Master’s degree and/or additional certification is preferred and can be used to substitute for relevant experience.
  • Two (2) years related experience, which includes proficiency with Learning Management Systems, multimedia content, and instructional design. Experience in training/supporting both students and adult learners required.
  • Forthright and a team player who is open to being a member of a high-performance management team.
  • Ability to have effective two-way communication with management and development team.
  • Knowledge of instructional and technical issues in online, hybrid, and video-teleconferencing (VTC) courses
  • Experience using a wide range of educational technologies, including learning management systems and computer-based testing platforms
  • Knowledge of the Quality Matters Standards for Higher Education and how to evaluate courses and make recommendations for quality assurance
  • Ability to produce training materials in a variety of formats using the latest industry tools.
  • Knowledge of modern computing, networking and communications systems and skill in use of technology applications.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data from various sources, identify issues/trends and assist in development of plans accordingly.
  • Familiarity with copyright and intellectual property standards for course development.
  • Knowledge of ADA requirements in online course delivery
  • Effective communication both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Writes and presents information in a clear and concise way. Interprets and understands written information and is able to listen attentively to verbal and non-verbal cues that lead to a deeper understanding. Must be fluent in English.
  • Be innovative, strategic, and leverage technology to assist with building, developing, and facilitating a successful medical education program
  • Work cooperatively with others and demonstrates professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others. Capable of interacting pleasantly and positively with others to meet student, faculty, and staff expectations, and provide follow up with customers.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and initiate follow-up action as necessary. Attention to detail is essential.
  • Knowledge of desktop and portable computer hardware, PC operating systems, peripherals and adapters
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to audiences with varying levels of technology experience
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite.
  • Ability to perform duties in a diverse work environment

Physical Demands
