The opportunity

As the Assistant Director of Learning Design, you will provide operational oversight and leadership of a cross-functional team of Instructional Designers, Learning Experience Designers, and Learning Architects in producing high-quality learning experiences that meet the needs of SNHU’s online learners. You’ll collaborate with other Assistant Directors on the Learning Science and Assessment to align teams under common design principles, learning models, design processes, and quality frameworks. You will manage the mentorship, coaching, and performance management of the team, holding regular development meetings with individual contributors, identifying areas of growth and opportunity, and aligning resources and training to support the ongoing evolution of the team.  You will report to the Director of Learning Solutions.

You’ll get to:

  • Collaborate with project partners to solution design challenges, promote a mindset of making data-informed decisions, and support vendor partnerships  
  • Collaborate with partners across the university to promote excellence in learning experience development while considering operational needs at scale and helping the team maintain a holistic view of the student experience
  • Use metrics to evaluate and coach members of the development teams toward greater efficiency, quality, and effectiveness in their work 
  • Lead team in applying relevant instructional and learning experience design principles in the development and iteration of high-quality products  
  • Identify development needs and propagate best practices based on thematic trends in learning experience quality, process performance, and the latest industry trends and technologies 
  • Assess ongoing team capacity and manage the team’s backlog of assignments, including continuous improvement of existing learning experiences 

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Technology, or related field with associated professional experience 
  • Demonstrated experience directly managing teams in higher education organizations 
  • 3 or more years of experience in instructional design, learning experience design, educational technology or curriculum development positions 
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects and interdependent teams 
  • Experience working with new learning models such as competency-based education, gamification, or digital badging

Compensation

The annual pay range for this position is $68,669.00 – $109,891.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations. We expect this position to be hired in the following target hiring range $75,879.00 – $102,659.00.
