We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the development of high-quality curriculum for mini-bootcamps focused on Power BI, Tableau, and Python for Data Analysis. This role requires a strong background in these tools and the ability to create engaging, practical, and foundational learning experiences for professionals upskilling in a city government context.

The SME will collaborate with a team of instructional designers, curriculum developers, and project managers to ensure the curriculum is relevant, accurate, and aligned with the outlined syllabi.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed lecture and lab outlines for Power BI/Tableau Basics, Intermediate Power BI/Tableau, and Python for Data Analysis, ensuring alignment with the provided syllabi.
  • Create instructional materials, including lecture slides, lab instructions, and starter/solution files for hands-on projects.
  • Collaborate with other team members to review and provide constructive feedback on course content and ensure quality.
  • Assist in designing capstone projects, including defining project goals, requirements, and starter datasets.
  • Outline and propose optional personal project ideas for students to reinforce key skills.
  • Ensure deliverables adhere to the specific needs of the learner audience (city government professionals with varying technical backgrounds).
  • Provide guidance on technical aspects of curriculum design, including optimal use of pandas, Matplotlib, Power Query, and Tableau Prep.
  • Contribute to the development of interactive and engaging dashboards in Power BI and Tableau.
  • Attend occasional check-ins with the project manager and curriculum development team.

Qualifications:

  • Strong expertise in Power BI, Tableau, and Python for Data Analysis.
  • Proven experience in technical writing, such as training documentation, educational materials, or technical reports.
  • Familiarity with curriculum development principles and best practices.
  • Experience with data cleaning, visualization, and storytelling in a professional setting.
  • Basic proficiency in reStructured Text (.rst) files or willingness to collaborate with others for conversion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Teaching, mentoring, or informal training experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines consistently.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience developing content for professionals in public sector or government settings.
  • Familiarity with tools like Jupyter Notebooks, Seaborn, and SQL.

Deliverables and Timeline:

  • Course 1 (Power BI/Tableau Basics): Due December 9th
  • Course 2 (Python for Data Analysis): Due January 20th
  • Course 3 (Intermediate Power BI/Tableau): Due February 10th
  • Approximately 20 hours per week, with potential for additional hours if needed to meet deadlines.
