Under the direction of the Director of Instructional Design and Development, this position provides instructional design expertise to the Information and Engineering Technologies (IET) discipline. The Instructional Designer focuses on assisting IET faculty in designing courses and instructional practices, creating learning resources, and piloting/implementing new technologies for teaching and learning. The Instructional Designer works with faculty to design and develop quality courses based on sound pedagogy and instructional design best practice and supports faculty in ongoing course development, evaluation, and revision processes.

Duties and Tasks:

  • Coordinate and manage IET course development and revision projects from inception to completion.
  • Manage the course development process for new courses and courses that need to be revised/redesigned.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design and develop high-quality, contextually-rich, engaging, and objective-driven courses.
  • Track the status of projects and maintain appropriate files and records, including time tracking, project comments, and task completion.
  • Design and produce learning materials in various formats, including print, graphics, audio, video, web, and multimedia, to support teaching, learning, and college information needs.
  • Participate in professional development to stay abreast of current research and best practices.
  • Participate in staff meetings and team meetings.
  • Contribute to special projects as assigned to support the overall strategic mission of NOVA.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in instructional design, educational technology, or appropriately qualifying field
  • Some experience using a variety of technology tools to create multimedia content (e.g.,Adobe Acrobat, Articulate, Camtasia, Captivate, podcasting tools, Google Apps).
  • Some experience using the Canvas LMS to create, organize, and deploy instructional materials.
  • Some experience creating content for faculty and experience working with SMEs and/or faculty, preferably in the higher education environment.
  • Some experience in instructional design and designing online courses in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant experience in coordinating and managing course development and course revision projects from inception to completion.
  • Some experience in both education and corporate instructional design.
  • Significant-level Canvas experience.
  • Some experience teaching online.
  • Experience working in a community college.
  • QM peer-reviewer (PRC) certification.
