Job Goal

Responsible for providing instructional support to school based leaders in assigned learning commununity to support student achievement. This includes assisting with monitoring the fidelity of implementation of preK-12 instructional programs, providing professional development support, and supporting other initiatives impacting student outcomes as well as addressing parent concerns.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with other specialists and directors to implement PreK-12 instructional programs and other initiatives impacting student outcomes.
  • Interprets and utilizes student related data to develop recommendations and provide strategic support to schools regarding instructional practices.
  • Works with academic departments to provide professional development opportunities for school leaders, teachers, and staff.
  • Provides support to schools in completing and interpreting School Improvement Plans and utilizing data to drive instructional improvements.
  • Supports and evaluates school programs activities, including professional development.
  • Provides support to schools in developing and monitoring school improvement goals.
  • Provides professional development support and works collaboratively with other departments to monitor and support school level implementation of district initiatives.
  • Supports the development of short-range and long-range instructional goals and objectives for schools.
  • Coaches school-based instructional leaders regarding implementation of Prek-12 instructional programs and other initiatives impacting student outcomes to ensure fidelity of implementation.
  • Coaches school leaders and school-based instructional leaders on using data to plan instructional programs.
  • Develops associated reports and interprets data.
  • Communicates and responds to requests from parents and principals in resolving issues.
  • Assists in the preparation of evaluations for the Community Superintendent – help pull student achievement data – walk by feedback data – collect evidence
  • Attends meetings and represents the community superintendent in his/her absence.
  • Researches and provides data to senior management regarding schools in assigned community.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & abilities 

  • Knowledge of North Carolina Standard Course of Study
  • Current knowledge of instructional strategies and how to monitor classroom instruction
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction, theory, and practice
  • Knowledge of how to research, compile, and disaggregate school data
  • Knowledge of national and NC standards for learning, including Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
  • Knowledge of national, state, and local organizations and support services
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Ability to plan and lead professional development
  • Ability to work with parents to resolve issues
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Strong problem solving, decision making, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to plan and deliver effective staff development
  • Ability to resolve complex issues related to policies, procedures, and legal issues
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects efficiently and within established timeframes.
  • Ability to create reports and analyze associated data
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

Education, Training & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • Five years experience as a teacher

OR 

  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations 

  • Certification in Administration or Curriculum and Supervision preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in education or related discipline
  • Five or more years experience as a teacher or administrator
