Sophia learning is seeking 2 Subject Matter Experts to write and edit course content and assessments for our Introduction to Web Development online course. If you are an expert in Web Development and Information Technology, have teaching experience, and previous curriculum writing experience – we want to hear from you!

About the Role

Sophia is looking for 2 Subject Matter Expert (SME) to conduct a competitive analysis, develop the course structure and write text-based lessons and assessments for our Introduction of Web Development course. This course is meant to provide students with the basic building blocks of web development, understand the history of web technologies and apply a basic understanding of code (HTML, CSS, Javascript). The course aims at setting students up for success in their need to continue in the field or apply their knowledge elsewhere.

Essential Duties

  • Conduct a comprehensive environmental scan to document topics, course structures, etc
  • Develop the course structure document in collaboration with team
  • Expand licensed content, adding examples and real-world context.
  • Write, review, and revise a total of 50-90 lessons, 1500-2500 words/each
  • Write, review, and provide feedback on multiple-choice assessment items
  • Ensure the writing is clear, engaging, and audience-appropriate for an introductory course (must follow Sophia style standards)
  • Collaborate with Sophia Staff Instructional Designers to implement sound learning strategies

Job Skills

  • Strong writing skills leveled for undergraduate or general education audiences
  • Professional experience writing course and textbook content for a publisher or similar entity
  • Previous course development experience in Web Development (introductory courses inclusive of HTML, CSS and JavaScript).
  • Previous experience teaching in Web Development
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills (Sophia course development is a very collaborative process)
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and responsiveness

Work Experience

  • 2 years of experience in teaching and writing in subject matter area

Education

  • Master’s or PhD in Information Technology, Web Development or a related field
