Job Description

The University Innovation Lab Community Manager will be responsible for building a sustainable online community that meets the needs of student success professionals. Working with the Lab Content and Product Manager and other members of the UIA staff, the Community Manager will implement and evolve the Lab engagement strategy to make sure the Lab creates a positive user experience for student success innovators and professionals who come to learn and collaborate. The Community Manager will be the primary person responsible for listening to Lab subscribers, UIA members, and our larger network to ensure their voices are represented in our offerings and processes. The Community Manager will be instrumental in implementing an expansion strategy to bring the University Innovation Lab to a wider national membership. They will also connect organizations and individuals to the UIA; respond and connect to the needs heard; analyze the insights gathered; and make recommendations for ways to better engage our stakeholders.

Working Environment

  • This position is a member of the UIA Central Team based at Arizona State University, but structured as a remote/virtual employee.
  • All UIA Central team members are remote/virtual and working across timezones.
  • Occasional travel for events and retreats may be required.
  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND five years administrative/coordination experience; OR, Master’s degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND three years administrative/coordination experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master’s degree in Community Engagement or other relevant field.
  • Experience and training in UX design
  • Experience developing strategies and workflow for executing complex projects and initiatives.
  • Experience fostering partnerships and developing understanding of needs, issues, and problems across organizations and stakeholder groups
  • Experience in higher education institutional transformation.
  • Experience working effectively in an environment subject to changing priorities, sensitive/confidential information and short deadlines.

Essential Duties

Lab Member Experience: 50% of time

  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, retention and user experience in the University Innovation Lab.
  • Design helpful user pathways and guide cohorts through those pathways.
  • Engage community members through online groups and discussion boards,
  • Plan and coordinate virtual events, including moderators, panelists, and speakers.
  • Collaborate with appropriate UIA team members to develop engagement calendar and communicate Lab activities/updates to UIA members, Lab subscribers, and wider network.
  • Measure, track, and report on key ROE (Return on Engagement) metrics.
  • Research and recommend new technology tools and engagement approaches in the Lab.
  • Recruit, manage and supervise Lab Leaders to drive community engagement

Lab Membership/Strategic Partnership Expansion: 50% of time

  • Use WordPress to manage user subscriptions and tiered access.
  • Use community and social listening to source insights, needs, and success stories to inform Lab strategy and inspire continued engagement.
  • Facilitate pilot user groups
  • Advocate for inclusion of voices missing from active community discussion and forums and work to create an inclusive community.
  • Collaborate with UIA staff to ensure that Lab activities integrate with overall UIA priorities and engagement planning
  • Lead annual recruitment of new member subscriptions for individuals, campuses and organizations
  • Engage on behalf of the UIA in higher education innovation communities to share information about resources available in the lab community
  • Collaborate with UIA leadership on communications for recruitment campaigns
