Job Summary:

As a full-time staff member in the Office of Online Learning, the Online Doctoral Studies Instructional Designer (ID) is responsible for working with faculty in the developing and implementing of online doctoral studies courses to assure the highest quality pedagogical practices and student learning experiences. The ID will help professors to create courses, set up their courses, to develop effective assessments and in-class experiences, import and prepare the courses for students. The ID brings knowledge of instructional design and online pedagogy into their collaborative efforts with faculty, subject matter experts, and video production and will be expected to utilize strong project management skills to move course developments and related projects to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with faculty to design and develop effective learning experiences. The ID must be capable of assisting faculty through each stage of the instructional design process. The ID will work as part of the Global Campus team to provide services related to online course design and delivery.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Utilize appropriate instructional design strategies for online doctoral courses.
  • Design courses according to best instructional design principles.
  • Assist faculty updating their doctoral courses each semester
  • Collaborate and communicate with faculty to select appropriate educational technologies, delivery strategies, and design courses accordingly.
  • Manage course developments from inception to completion. Use project management skills to develop courses and projects in a timely manner.
  • Work with various departments and teams to ensure elements of courses are produced.
  • Advise faculty on best practices and strategies related to online course instruction.
  • Work with Learning Management Systems (e.g. Canvas).
  • Assisting in other departmental tasks as needed.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience:

While no specific educational background is required, a theological Master’s degree or Doctoral status would be ideal. Previous experience at a Christian educational institution is not necessary. However, the ability to support the mission and goals of a theological institution is required.

Essential Skill and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated ability to design instructional materials and interactive media using sound principles of instructional design.
  • Knowledge of instructional design principle, models, and instructional delivery.
  • Experience with online and interactive simulation development.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite applications.
  • Familiarity with Apple operating systems and mobile devices (e.g. iPhone, iPad, etc.)
  • Familiarity with social networking, online collaborative tools, and mobile solutions for educational environments
  • Ability to use online virtual conferencing software (e.g. Zoom, WebEx, GotoMeeting, etc.)
  • Familiarity with online events (e.g. webinars, conferences, etc.)
