Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Position purpose: 

The Instructional Technologist is responsible for supporting and driving adoption of core academic technologies to support teaching and learning. This individual must stay current on trends in instructional technology, make recommendations for new technology tools to be implemented on campus, and regularly communicate instructional technology-related information to the faculty and administrative leadership

Essential Functions:

  •  Support faculty use of core learning technologies by providing support resources and troubleshooting technical issues. 
  • Assist with the selection, implementation, and maintenance of educational technology tools and software. 
  • Serve as a resource for faculty and students seeking assistance with educational technology tools. 
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend instructional technologies that align with educational goals and objectives. 
  • Provide training sessions and workshops for faculty on the use of instructional technologies. 
  • Offer ongoing support to faculty and staff to ensure the successful adoption of technology tools. 
  • Conduct assessments of the effectiveness of instructional technology initiatives and provide recommendations for improvement. 
  • Collect and analyze data related to technology usage and its impact on student outcomes. 
  • Communicate with end users regularly regarding advancements in instructional technology, new tools that are available and how they may be able to use these resources in their courses.

  • Strong organization, self-motivation and analytical skills.

  • Ability to appropriately assess the needs of end users and develop professional development programs tailored to individuals with varying levels of technological proficiency. 
  • Exceptional skills as a trainer. 
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and guidelines for education.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond to high-pressure situations. Ability to thrive in an environment of hard work.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Required Education

Master’s degree in instructional technology, educational technology, a related field, or equivalent training and experience.

Required Experience

  • Working in higher education or a similar setting.

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and hear sufficiently to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes. The employee’s vision must be adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc. The position requires good manual dexterity. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing as necessary.
