The Instructional Designer supports and develops training sessions, workshops, and learning opportunities relevant to online teaching pedagogies, curricular instruction, and technology applications and integration. Specific and enhanced knowledge of best practices and coordination of projects for online and traditional instruction that enhance student learning are key responsibilities of this role. The Instructional Designer creates and coordinates faculty professional development opportunities that support and/or improve instructional efficacy and quality in online teaching. The Center for Innovative and Transformative Instruction (CITI) leads, supports, and collaborates on many campus projects, so the ability to multi-task and lead multiple projects is key to this position.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience in instructional design and curriculum development.
  • At least two years of experience with online instruction and learning, including course design, course reviews, and/or post-secondary teaching of online courses.
  • Knowledge and experience or certification with Quality Matters © and other course review formats.
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, multimedia applications (i.e., webcasting, videoconferencing, podcasting, video production), Office 365, learning management systems, and instructional technology.
  • Superior experience with the Canvas LMS and comfort in facilitating workshops on ways to use it for course management, online instruction, and hybrid/blended instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience in instructional design and curriculum development in a higher education setting.
  • Publications, conference presentations, and/or active participation in national organizations relevant to teaching and learning, instructional technology, instructional design, and/or online education.
  • Understanding of current higher education issues and trends.
  • Experience in web content development and support.
  • Excellent interpersonal and consultative, oral and written communication, and team skills.
  • Professional commitment and flexibility.
  • Ability to lead and manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience working in a teaching and learning/faculty development center.
  • Experience working with post-secondary faculty teaching diverse student populations and knowledge of issues faced by those from underrepresented groups, specific to those enrolled at a historically Black college and university (HBCU).
  • Experience in assessing learning outcomes at the course, program, and campus levels.
  • Understanding the philosophy and development of faculty development and/or teaching and learning theories.
  • A strong background in teaching innovations to improve student success such as active learning, High Impact Practices, and digital literacy applications.
  • Engagement in ways to secure Open Educational Resource (OER) applications.
