Underwriters Laboratories Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI) is seeking an Instructional Design Intern to join our Research Institute. 

Support an organization dedicated to safety science and standards development by producing training for the fire service. Learn how to apply instructional design theory to the design and development of engaging online content under the guidance of an experienced instructional design team. If you are an educator thinking about leaving the classroom and exploring a career in instructional design, this is a perfect opportunity to test the waters during your summer break. You will gain exposure to and experience working with subject matter experts, applying design principles and methodologies, and using authoring software and other design tools to create high quality training modules. This position is located in Columbia, Maryland.

What you’ll learn & achieve:

  • Work with Instructional Design Manager and Instructor Design Associates and Specialists to create, modify, and/or finalize content for training deliverables
  • Assist in designing the look and feel of a course, including template, style, colors, graphics, animations, interactions, and assessments
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, members of the digital media production team, and creative services to design and/or develop content for training deliverables

What makes you a great fit:

  • Minimum of a four-year degree in instructional design or a related field.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including the ability to multitask and manage time appropriately
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Office 365 and able to learn new software applications
