Job Description

Under general direction, assists senior instructional designers, faculty and/or other subject matter experts in the design, development, and support of learning materials using multiple instructional technologies and applying best practices in teaching and learning. ETX Instructional Designers develop the next generation of digital learning experiences and can solve design challenges to create immersive, adaptive experiences that spark curiosity.

Working Environment

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computers; bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field. One (1) year of experience providing educational technology development services, or formal or informal education. Or, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Our work involves creation of new learning experiences that embody this idea; training other designers and educators in this way of thinking; and researching the effectiveness of the ETX approach.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design and pedagogical approaches, practices, and tools for diverse audiences/environments,
  • Experience in using a variety of industry-leading technologies and products for development of content, presentations, web pages, web applications and tutorials,
  • Experience in using learning management systems,
  • Experience in troubleshooting computer and web technology issues on common platforms,
  • Experience in problem-solving and lateral thinking to develop new instructional strategies and techniques,
  • Experience in effective organization and time-management in an environment with multiple priorities and short deadlines,
  • Evidence of effective communication skills
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships,
  • Experience in designing and delivering effective STEM

Experience in one or more of the following is desired, but not required:

  • Teaching experience, either formal or informal
  • Working with or using digital technology
  • Work/experience with under-served audiences
  • Diverse communities

Essential Duties

  • In collaboration with faculty and/or other subject matter experts, designs and develops engaging, interactive and instructionally sound learning materials, including assessments, in alignment with learning objectives and goals.
  • Utilizes and recommends effective and creative uses of technology to enhance instruction including content authoring tools, document creation applications, presentation tools and other technology resources to develop custom products.
  • Collaborates with others (e.g. software developers, technologists, project managers, graphic designers) to integrate contributions and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of design and development models and processes.
  • Under the direction of other instructional designers/managers, assists with quality assurance, educator and technical support, editing and implementing recommended changes to improve learning and courseware performance.
  • Provides technological support of learning materials built by the Center and used by faculty.
  • Builds familiarity with, and remains current on, best practices, learning theories, and instructional technologies and incorporates these into content and learning objectives.
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.
