Hi, I’m Danielle Hipwell, Sr. Director, People Experience at Customer.io. I’m looking for a Director of Learning, Growth & Development to join our team.

At Customer.io, we believe that learning fuels both individual and organizational success. As our first-ever Director of Learning, Growth & Development, you will design and execute a scalable learning strategy that enhances leadership capabilities, supports career growth at all levels, and fosters a culture of continuous development.

In this role, you’ll build and lead programs that provide employees with the skills, mentorship, and experiences they need to grow—whether as individual contributors, managers, or senior leaders. You’ll ensure that every employee has access to innovative learning experiences that are aligned with their professional journey and our business goals.

Some things you’ll do

Learning & Leadership Development Strategy

  • Architect and execute a global learning strategy that builds leadership capabilities, enhances manager effectiveness, and supports career growth at all levels.
  • Develop and implement leadership development programs that equip employees at all levels—from individual contributors to senior leaders—with the skills, experiences, and mentorship needed to grow into future leadership roles.
  • Build structured leadership development pathways that support career progression, including first-time manager training, high-potential talent programs, and executive leadership development.
  • Design innovative learning experiences that blend self-paced learning, live sessions, coaching, and peer-driven development to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Leverage learning technology platforms (Torch, Ethena, Articulate360, Deel/Zavvy) to deliver engaging, data-driven learning experiences.
  • Ensure learning programs support DEI initiatives, fostering an inclusive and equitable growth culture.

Organizational & Team Development

  • Partner with senior leaders to assess capability gaps and align learning initiatives with business priorities.
  • Lead change management efforts by designing learning solutions that support organizational transformation and team effectiveness.
  • Embed a culture of feedback and continuous learning, equipping employees and managers with tools to grow and develop in real-time.

Data & Impact Measurement

  • Establish metrics and evaluation frameworks to track learning program effectiveness and ROI.
  • Use data-driven insights to continuously optimize learning strategies, ensuring alignment with business impact.
  • Report on learning trends and effectiveness to senior leadership, shaping future investments in employee development.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience in organizational development, learning & development, or talent strategy, preferably in a remote, high-growth company.
  • Expertise in leadership development, coaching models, and competency frameworks.
  • Strong experience leveraging learning technologies, including LMS and coaching platforms.
  • A data-driven approach to measuring learning effectiveness and tying development programs to business outcomes.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with executives, people partners, business leaders, culture team and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience leading large-scale change initiatives that impact culture, leadership, and team effectiveness.
  • Passion for fostering inclusive learning experiences that support a diverse, global workforce.

About Customer.io

Our mission at Customer.io is to power automated communication that people like to receive. Today over 7,400 internet businesses use Customer.io to manage, send, and track the performance of emails, SMS, push notifications, and in-app messages. Unlike typical marketing platforms, Customer.io helps businesses increase relevance by using behavioral data: what people do or don’t do when logged in to a web or mobile app.

We are offering a starting salary of $195,000 USD (or equivalent in local currency) depending on experience and subject to market rate adjustment.
