We are seeking a Director of Learning Design and Content Production who will be responsible for playing a key role in shaping our learning design strategy, directly participating in and overseeing the content development team, and developing a new line of continuing education programs. Our ideal candidate is a doer and leader. You should have hands-on experience designing learning solutions, experience managing learning content productions teams, and a demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate, problem-solve, influence, and change perspectives. This role will report to the Head of Product and Engineering.

About Black Spectacles

Black Spectacles is an online learning platform for architects and designers, offering ARE® exam prep and a software curriculum. We provide aspiring architects educational resources on their path to becoming licensed and advancing their careers. We were the first and only NCARB-approved Test Prep Provider for all 6 divisions of the ARE.

We are an ambitious group of 25 fully remote teammates with the goal of growing to 75 over the next two years to support our purpose of helping architects thrive in their careers, trying to achieve big things to support the architecture community.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a comprehensive and well articulated learning design strategy with organization partners and stakeholders to guide and support learning solution development and content production.
  • Emphasize a “learning by doing” approach to ensure programs provide practical and relevant knowledge that professionals can immediately apply in their work.
  • Actively participate in and manage a multi-functional content production team to create test preparation materials; including video lectures, study guides, practical case studies, digital flashcards, practice exams, and workshop sessions.
  • Collaborate with organization stakeholders to design new continuing education programs.
  • Develop and continuously improve production and quality assurance practices.
  • Monitor and proactively manage content production schedules with the project manager.
  • Oversee the roadmap for reviewing and refreshing existing learning programs; updating as needed to reflect changes in standards, quality improvements, and industry best practices.
  • Monitor and assess compliance with accessibility standards and regulations, and make improvements to maintain and enhance accessibility across our digital platform and learning materials.
  • Foster an innovative, collaborative environment where listening, idea sharing, professional growth, and productive conflict resolution are supported.
  • Maintain communication with team members and provide training and regular, structured feedback and coaching.
  • Continuously evaluate programs and apply data-driven insights to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to incorporate cutting-edge practices and technology to improve production efficiency, user engagement, personalization, and outcomes.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and requirements to ensure our learning programs meet audience needs and industry standards.
  • Provide regular updates to the leadership team on projects and learner performance.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify current and future trends in learning design, continuing education, and professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • 10-15 years of combined experience including a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory position designing and developing learning solutions, managing learning content production teams, and improving processes and outcomes.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience in developing and implementing innovative education technology-enabled solutions.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Experience in the professional licensure or continuing education industry is a plus.
