Job Description

Works closely and collaborates with business functional users and the accessibility team to understand business requirements. Performs analysis and application support through the use of outlined software testing processes and procedures to ensure accessibility requirements for applications are met. This is an intern position working under close direction to support several project groups by performing defined work to test, document, and maintain quality assurance and accessibility standards.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Clearly communicate to perform essential functions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Above average computer skills. Multiple OS, browser, and device experience.

  • Ability to learn/understand complex accessibility and software testing processes and tools with direct and guided supervision, and use that knowledge to evaluate user experience in order to create and execute manual test scenarios against various software applications across multiple operating systems and devices.
  • Team oriented; able to effectively respond to routine situations and follow directions set by project lead and/or supervisor.
  • Ability to provide ideas and recommendations to resolve routine issues.

Essential Duties

  • Evaluate websites, software, and mobile applications against WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines by using automated browser tools (e.g. Siteimprove Accessibility Checker, WebAIM Contrast Checker), keyboard-only navigation testing, and desktop/mobile assistive technologies such as screen readers and voice software (e.g. VoiceOver, TalkBack, JAWS).
  • Works with designated Business Analyst, Quality Assurance, and Accessibility personnel to analyze software issues for causes and solutions.
  • Evaluates and executes testing of new and/or modified application functionality.
  • Analyzes functional and technical documentation to determine if applications will perform according to user’s requirements and conform to university guidelines.
  • Create and expand current accessibility test suites and procedures throughout the University Technology Office and Arizona State University as a whole.
  • Works under limited direction, independently determines and develops solutions.
  • Take responsibility for fostering culture, advancing our values, and championing engagement in all its forms — collaborating across our teams as well as participating in UTO/ASU events and programs.
